During the pandemic shut down I took advantage of the forced closure to rebuild my old wood kiln into a larger design. This kiln utilizes an ancient method of arch building known as the Nubian Vault. This type of arch lays the bricks one on another while braced against another structure, such as a wall or as in my kiln against the catenary arch that makes up my firebox. This type of arch requires no support during construction and offers quite a bit of freedom in its form.
